I love this time of year! I just LOVE it!! Not because we have a break from the Texas summer heat, or because the love of Texas Aggie football is at a fever pitch. No, I love it because we take the time to do something that we should do every day, but don’t. We take the time to reflect on our blessings and with an intentional pause, give thanks for them.
I am thankful for everyone that that has come along my journey as The Entrepreneur’s Banker, and I want to be open enough to share the three things that I am most thankful for.
1. My relationship with my Heavenly Father.
This live is so brief and what we do with it can seem meaningless. Yet, I am thankful for my relationship with Jesus Christ that brings me not only salvation, but purpose. I am the first to admit that I am not living perfectly the life I am called to, but I know that I am covered by His grace and His purpose is so much better than anything I could dream of. Relationship and purpose that will last beyond my brief time to echo through eternity.
2. My family and friends
I am so thankful for all my family. I want to especially thank my wife Sarah for her steadfast support and unwavering love. My son, Grayson is the best part of Sarah and me and I am so thankful that he loves me and doesn’t think I am too big of a dork (give him time, he is only 10 after all). I want to also express my thanks to my mother, Laurie who has encouraged me with my writing. She makes me look so much smarter than I am, as she is the editor of all my articles. I am thankful to the rest of my family and friends, who I thought about naming here – but then this article would be as long as Atlas Shrugged. Suffice to say, I am grateful and thankful for all your love and support and I hope that I can demonstrate my love and support back to you in a meaningful way!
3. My freedoms granted to be by being a citizen of the United States
Those who are closest to me know that I don’t enjoy discussing politics. However, putting all that aside, I realize that I am truly blessed to be born in this country at this time. I have freedoms that are not granted to everyone – freedom to worship when, where, how and who I choose chief among them. I also am thankful that I am allowed to pursue my passions and serve in a way that seems best to me. I am deeply aware of the sacrifice that previous (and current) generations have made to ensure these freedoms, and I am thankful for their willingness to do so. I hope that all of us take some time between turkey and pumpkin pie to thank any veterans and first responders that we know. Thank them for being willing to serve us.
I realize that being an entrepreneur is the most difficult thing that many of us do, but I encourage you today to take 10 minutes and identify the three things you are most thankful for.
