If you have been following any of my content, you know that I am a huge fan of Gino Wickman and the book TRACTION. What you may not know is that there are experts in helping entrepreneurs implement the concepts discussed in TRACTION. The system is called EOS or Entrepreneurs Operating System and the experts are called EOS Implementers.
This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Randy McDougal who is an EOS implementer in Bryan/ College Station, Texas. I hope you enjoy the discussion and check out the link below to the video conversation.
We talk a lot about how entrepreneurship is a team sport – with entrepreneurs having a “Fab 5” or a circle of 5 trusted advisers. How can an EOS Implementer bring maximum value to an entrepreneur’s Fab 5.
EOS provides a foundation for business leaders to get the most out of their business. This is accomplished by implementing simple and practical tools to help business leaders get Vision, Traction, and Healthy.
Vision: Where are we going and how do we get there.
Traction: The accountability and discipline of the leadership team so that everyone is working together on the vision.
Healthy: Everyone being cohesive as they are working together.
What are the top 3 things that most entrepreneurs don’t realize about EOS Implementers and the impacts that it has on their companies?
1. There are practical systems that business owners can use to operate their business.
2. The tools are simple and you will start seeing time savings, communication improvement and operational effectiveness in your company almost immediately.
3. Simple does not mean easy. This is not for the faint of heart but for people who want real transformation in their business and personally.
What are some things that you are top of mind about EOS with all the entrepreneurs that you are working with?
1. Common language is needed in order to overcome obstacles.
2. 5 specific leadership abilities that help leadership teams address and overcome these obstacles.
- Simplify: a common language
- Delegate: delegate and elevate to a proper level
- Predicting: both short term issues that need to be addressed and long-term direction
- Systematize: how do we take the core process and procedures and make them repeatable so that they are doing the same way every time.
- Structure: having the right people in the right positions
Share with us a time that you helped significantly push an entrepreneur towards their definition of success.
I was working with a team that originally had a concern with the right people in the right seats. This was a small company and as they went through the assessment, they didn’t think that they had the right people in the organization in order to implement EOS. However, through the process they found out that they actually did have the right people. They were not looking at their greatest resource correctly and once they did – they have been able to have amazing improvements in what they have achieve and deliver.
Describe the entrepreneur that gets maximum value from working with you.
- They have an entrepreneurial spirit, not only in themselves, but in their company.
- They are open minded
- Growth oriented
- Open, honest and vulnerable
- More afraid of the status quo than of change. EOS does bring personal and business transformation and they must be accepting of the change.
Tell us a fact or two about you that most of the world doesn’t know and how can entrepreneurs get in touch with you?
Professionally: I was on the leadership team that set out to renovate the Astrodome in Houston Texas about 10 years ago. We had a great plan, an amazing team and over $500,000,000 of funding all lined up. With the economic downturn and other challenges in the process – we ended up not renovating the Astrodome. While it was a failure on one hand, we ended up gaining so much out of the process. I am so thankful for the process and what I l
Personally: My wife, Abigail, and I have been married for 32 years and we have recently started a marriage enrichment program for couples who say that wherever our marriage is – we want it to be better and take it to the next level. In the last few years we have had 200 couples go through the program.
